The Haylofters are holding open auditions for “Noises Off”:
When: August 20th and 21st from 7:00pm – 9:00 pm
Where: the Malt House Theatre
at 109 N. Main Street, Burlington WI
Directed by Don Fresen
Looking for: 4 women and 5 men, aged 20-something and up. This is a very physical comedy, so actors must be agile, and be able to run up and down stairs, and climb through windows.
Auditions will consist of:
— cold readings from the script
— some light improv, and
— interact with others on stage.
Monologues are NOT required.
TENTATIVE rehearsal schedule is Sunday afternoons at 2, Mon-Wed at 7, to begin with.
Michael Frayn’s “Noises Off” takes a fond look at the follies of theatre folk, whose susceptibility to out-of-control egos, memory loss, and passionate affairs turn every performance into a high-risk adventure. This play-within-a-play captures a touring theatre troupe’s production of ‘Nothing On’ in three stages: dress rehearsal, the opening performance, and a performance towards the end of a debilitating run.
The audience gets a window into the inner workings of theatre behind the scenes, progressing from flubbed lines and missed cues in the dress rehearsal to mounting friction between cast members in the final performance. Brimming with slapstick comedy, “Noises Off” is a delightful backstage farce, complete with slamming doors, falling trousers, and — of course — flying sardines!
