“And the beat goes on…the beat goes on” are the words to an old song that is somehow fitting for the end of our 80th Haylofters season. We have so many fun events going on that I don’t know where to start!
I guess the logical place to start is with our next play, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”. This is a hilarious play about love in its many forms and is the second longest running Off-Broadway show ever with over 4,500 performances! I went to auditions for the show and I have to tell you, it is very funny. It promises to be a very good show, but we would suggest this show for a mature audience. Production dates for “I Love You…” will be October 6 – 8, 14 – 16 and 21 – 23 (Thursday - Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM for the first week of the show and during the final two weeks, Friday – Saturday at 7:30 PM with Sunday matinees at 2 PM). Tickets will be available at The Grater Tater at 140 W. Chestnut St. , Burlington at the cost of $12. We will also have tickets available on line until 24 hours prior to each show for a slightly higher price at www.thehaylofters.com. Note that we will be selling any remaining tickets for each show ONLY at the concession stand/box office at the theater 1 hour prior to the opening of each show.
We would like to thank the generosity of an anonymous civic minded family for supporting the Haylofters by sponsoring “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Also, we will be holding a small silent auction in the lobby of the theater that will run the length of the show. The winning bids for auction items will be announced at the end of the last performance’s intermission. You need not be present to win your item. By the way, if you have an item you would like to donate to our silent auction, please email Lenore Swoboda at lenoreswoboda@gmail.com or call her at 262-763-8602 to let her know. Any donations are always appreciated!
We will be cleaning the theater for the opening of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”. The scheduled clean up will be Saturday, October 1 at 9 AM. Many hands make the work go faster, so please try to come.
Next on the docket is the Improv Night. To get an idea of what this is, think Comedy Sportz or “Who’s Line Is It Anyway?” Auditions for this fun event will be held on September 11 at 1 PM at the theater. All you have to do for the auditions is to show up and be ready for the improv games presented to you. Practices will be held on September 17 & 18 at 1 PM and the show will be on September 24 at 7:30 PM. The first half of the show will be family friendly and the second half will be more adult in nature (an intermission will be held between the two parts). Tickets cost $10 and will be available soon on line and at The Grater Tater.
Soon after the auditions for Improv Night, on September 17 at 7:30 PM, we will be holding a fundraiser featuring David Sarkis, a talented musician and singer who spent two years as a multi-instrumentalist with the hit Broadway musical, “The Jersey Boys”. David will be playing and singing to classic rock favorites including James Taylor, Jimmy Buffet, Eric Clapton, Simon and Garfunkel, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Carlos Santana. The evening will include a wine tasting at intermission and door prizes. This show will be a fund raiser to benefit the new lobby roof and will have a ticket price of $5 (tickets are also available on line and at The Grater Tater). Please come to enjoy a wonderful night of music and fun, as well as to help the Haylofters!
Don’t you love to go to Christmas concerts to get yourself ready for the Holiday season? Well, this year, you can be part of the Haylofters “Winter Cabaret” and really get yourself in the mood! Directors Christy Heinzelmann and T.C. DeWitt would like anyone interested in participating in this fun event to either call Christy at (262) 758-1254 or email her at shorty31883@yahoo.com . Production dates for the Winter Cabaret will be November 26 - 27, December 2 – 4 (Friday & Saturday at 7 PM and Sundays at 2 PM). Please consider singing with us. It’s fun!
See what I mean about so many fun things going on? Here’s the last one to consider: “ Dog Park , The Musical”. This show will be a bonus show for us and promises to be outrageously funny. It is a comedy featuring four dogs looking for their soul mates at the hippest, hottest place in town, the local dog park. This show will leave you wanting to capture your inner canine and get down with the dogs. Director, Jennie King and Assistant Director, Bill Corey will be holding auditions on Monday, September 19 at 7 PM at the CATHE center ( 125 E. State St. , Burlington ). Jennie tells me that auditioners need not prepare a song for the audition, but instead expect to sing a song with the group. Some cold reading and a small amount of dance movement will also be required. Production dates for “ Dog Park , The Musical” will be November 3 – 6, 10 – 13.
Do you have the right stuff to help us out in our never ending quest for talented and hard working board members? Who can run? You must be 18 years of age or older and a paid member of the Haylofters. Only one member of a family may run for the board – that is, for example, if a husband is running for the board, then his wife or their children can’t also be running to be for that same board. Board terms are three years. I know this is a time commitment, but, in order for our theater to advance, we must have the best people running it, so consider joining us in this very meaningful way.
Finally, our next board meeting will be held on Monday, October 10, 6:30 PM at the Malt House Theater.
Your Hayloft Treasurer and Board member,
Phyllis Hartwick
