HAYLOFT HAPPENINGS – SEPTEMBER 2009

Can it possibly be fall?  How did that happen?  It seems like our play season just started and here we are, ready to present our last season show - but let me tell you, what a great way to end it!  The show I’m referring to is, of course, the very touching and funny “Harvey," a comedy about a somewhat confused, yet sweet man, Elwood P. Dowd, who carries on conversations with his sidekick, a 6 foot imaginary rabbit named Harvey.  Chaos ensues when his sister and niece try to have Elwood committed to the local asylum.

Show dates for this amusing show will be October 8 – 10, 15 – 17 and 23 – 25 (Thursday - Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM for the first two weeks of the show and during the final week, Friday – Saturday at 7:30 PM with a Sunday matinee at 2 PM).  Tickets, priced at $10, will be available at the Daily Brew Coffee House, 557 Milwaukee Ave. , Burlington , during normal business hours (M – F: 6 AM – 2 PM, Sat./Sun.: 8 AM – 12 Noon) two weeks prior to the opening of the show.  At that time, we will also be selling tickets on line at
www.thehaylofters.com .

This is a great way to purchase tickets if it is not convenient for you to pick up your tickets at the Daily Brew Coffee House or you are not a season ticket holder (note that prices on line will be slightly higher).  All you need to do is go to www.thehaylofters.com on your computer and click on the show link and more information will be given to you.  It’s very easy.

We would like to thank M & I Bank for supporting the Haylofters by sponsoring “Harvey”.  M & I Bank has now sponsored our fall show four years in a row!  Who could ask for anything more?  Also, we will be holding a raffle for several items in the lobby of the theater that will run the length of the show.  The winning raffle tickets will be announced at the end of the last performance’s intermission.  You need not be present to win.

Continuing with upcoming events, this year’s Christmas concert has taken on an entirely new look.  The new “Winter Cabaret” will be held on November 28 - 29 and December 4 - 6 and will be a holiday inspired variety show.  Directors Christy Heinzelmann and Melissa Rodriguez are very excited about presenting a wide range of talent for their first “Winter Cabaret”.   Look for more information about this exciting event in our next Happenings.

We are very excited to announce the upcoming concert of some very talented young people attached to the Haylofters!  Taa Daa!!!  Please come to see our own Rachel Dawley and Jordan Debbink sing and play some wonderful songs for your listening pleasure.  The concert will be held at the Malt House Theater on Friday, September 25th at 7:30 PM.  A $5 donation is suggested.  Trust me, they sing like angels!  Please come to support and cheer them on.

We are looking for some volunteer help with an upcoming fund raiser.  As has been our custom in the past few years, we will be working on the Gooseberries Holiday Show on Saturday, December 5.  Four people will be needed for two 3-hour shifts (10 AM – 1 PM and 1 PM – 4 PM) demonstrating store-made recipes and selling product.  The Hayloft will provide the Edwardian type costumes needed for the event.  Please contact Lenore Swoboda at 262-763-9395 if you can help us.

Finally, as is customary, we will be cleaning the theater for the opening of “ Harvey ”.  The scheduled clean up will be Saturday, October 3 at 9 AM.  Many hands make the work go faster, so please try to come.

                                   Your Hayloft Secretary,

                                    Phyllis Hartwick
