HAYLOFT HAPPENINGS/ OCTOBER 2009
Seasons come and seasons go, but I have to say, THIS has been a good one! We just finished up the very sweet and funny play “ Harvey ” and are moving on to our first ever “Winter Cabaret”.
The “Winter Cabaret”, directed by Christie Heinzelmann and Melissa Rodriguez, will be held for two weekends at the Malt House Theater on November 28 & 29 and December 4 – 6 (Fridays & Saturdays will be at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2 PM). Christie and Melissa have put together a sort of holiday variety show featuring dance, skits and, of course, singing to start your holidays off with a joyful song. Tickets for this fun show will cost $5 and be available at the Daily Brew Coffee House, 557 Milwaukee Ave. , Burlington , during normal business hours (M – F: 6 AM – 2 PM, Sat./Sun.: 8 AM – 12 Noon) two weeks prior to the opening of the show. At that time, we will also be selling tickets online at www.thehaylofters.com. Additionally, tickets will be sold at the door (pending availability).
Shall we journey together into next year’s season? Let’s! Last year was, as I said before, a winner, but hold onto your chair and wait until you hear what’s coming up! I consider it an honor to present the Haylofters’ 2010 season.
Our spring “regular” season show will be the emotional and moving musical “Baby” (directed by Don Fresen). Auditions for this show will be held the week of March 14 (TBA) at the theater. Production dates will be April 29 - 30, May 1, 7 – 9 and 14 – 16.
Our summer “regular” season musical will be “State Fair”, the funny family adventures of the Frake family at the Iowa state fair. Songs like “It Might As Well Be Spring” came from this classic show. Auditions for this show (directed by Don Fresen) will be held on May 24 & 25 at the theater. Production dates will be July 14 – 17, 22 – 25 and July 29 - 31, August 1.
The final “regular” season show in fall (directed by Pamela Schroeder) will be the Tony award winning, crazy musical farce “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”. Auditions will be held on August 30 & 31 at the theater. Production dates will be: October 7 – 9, 15 – 17 and 22 - 24.
The Young Haylofters play will be “101 Dalmatians”, the rollicking Disney musical about a wicked lady and some very cute dogs (directed by Julie Busch and student director, Brendan Haglund). Auditions will be June 28 & 29 at the theater. Production dates will be: August 12 – 15 and 19 – 22.
A possible Bonus show is in the works for November 2010, but, as usual, look for any updates here in the monthly “Happenings”.
Do you have the right stuff to help us out in our never ending quest for talented and hard working board members? Yes, you heard me right; we will be holding elections soon at the Hayloft. We are rapidly approaching 2010, which means that we will be holding elections for upcoming board openings at our December general meeting. Three board positions will be voted on this year. The terms for these positions will be three years. If you are a paid member of the Haylofters and would like to be part of the people running for the board this year, call me at (262)763-9395 (or email --
tophartwick@wi.rr.com
) by November 11.
Finally, I just want to remind you that all our board meetings are open to the public, so if you want to join us for our next meeting, please do. The next board meeting will be held at the theater on Thursday, November 12, at 7 PM.
Your Hayloft Secretary,
Phyllis Hartwick
