Spring is the season of beginnings – flowers are blooming, trees are budding and birds are doing the thing that ultimately produces baby birds.  We, at the Hayloft, are not to be outdone by Mother Nature!  That’s right; our first production is all about the amazing topic of having a baby – another new beginning.  This play, cleverly titled “Baby”, is the story of three variously aged couples who are all either hoping for or expecting a child and their very different responses.  Each of these couples experiences the emotional stresses and triumphs, the desperate lows and the comic highs that accompany the anticipation of a baby.  This show is STRONGLY suggested for mature audiences only.  Production dates for “Baby” will be April 29 – 30, May 1, 7 – 9, 14 – 16 (for the first week of the show: Thursday – Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM and for the final two weekends: Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM and Sunday matinees at 2 PM).  Ticket prices are $12 and are available at the Daily Brew Coffee House, 557 Milwaukee Avenue , Burlington , or on line at

.  As usual, we will be holding a small silent auction through-out the run of the play, with the winning bidders announced on the last day of the run.  Winning bidders need not be present to win.  If you have an item that you would like to donate to the cause, please call Lenore at 262-763-8602. We will also be holding a general theater clean-up before the opening of the show.  The clean-up will be held on Saturday, April 24, at 9 AM at the theater.  Remember, many hands make any project more manageable, so if you can help us out, please come!

Mark your calendars now for these upcoming auditions:  Don Fresen will be directing “State Fair”, the classic musical comedy about the adventures of an average American family in the late 1940’s at the Iowa State Fair.  Auditions for “State Fair” will be held at the Malt House Theater on Monday and Tuesday, May 24 & 25 at 7 PM.  Next on the docket will be the charming Young Haylofters musical production of “101 Dalmatians”, directed by Julie Busch and Brendan Haglund.  Julie and Brendan want children of ages 5 – 14 to audition on June 14 at 1 PM or June 15 at 10 AM.  Finally, auditions for our very funny fall musical farce, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”, directed by Pamela Schroeder, will be held on August 30 at 6:30 PM.  Ta Daa!!!  We are very proud to announce that one of the outstanding young adults at the ‘ Loft , Jordan Debbink, will be directing a Benefit Concert for the theater to help pay for a new updated theater light board.  Jordan tells me that he would like the Benefit to feature a wide variety of music for chorus, small choral groups and soloists.  Auditions for this exciting event will be held on June 22 and 23 at 7 PM.  Look for more information about all these auditions in future Happenings, but don’t forget to MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

So you say you like to organize things.  Well, we have the job for you!  On Saturday, May 22 at 9 AM, your Haylofter friends will be organizing their Prop room and we need your help!  This job will mostly be organizational with some dismantling and throwing away of unnecessary items.  If you can help us, please come – as previously mentioned, many hands make hard work easy!

Finally, our next Board of Directors meeting will be held on Thursday, May 13, at 7 PM, at the Malt House Theater.
