HAYLOFT HAPPENINGS – JUNE 2011

I was looking through the dictionary the other day and looked up “powerful” and “electric” and though the actual definitions were different, it might just as well have said the name of our summer musical production “Jesus Christ Superstar”.  Director, Jenny Hoffman, is very excited with the talented turn out she has in her cast and all I could say when I heard the cast singing was “WOW, wait until an audience hears this!”    Really, this promises to be a knockout of a show. 

 

Just a word of caution:  Our summer musicals frequently sell out, so if you are a season/patron ticket holder, we recommend that you call to hold your ticket for this show NOW.  Production dates for “Jesus Christ Superstar” will be July 14 – 17, 21 – 24, 28 - 31 (Thursday – Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM and Sunday matinees at 2 PM.)  Due to expected demand, we have added 2 PM Saturday matinees on July 23 and 30. 

 

Tickets will be available to the general public the week of June 30 at the The Grater Tater, 140 W. Chestnut St. , Burlington , at the cost of $12.  We will also have tickets available on line at www.thehaylofters.com.  This is a great way to purchase tickets if it is not convenient for you to pick up your tickets at The Grater Tater or you are not a season ticket holder.  Prices on line are slightly higher due to a service charge.  Tickets purchased on line will be held at the concession stand of the theater for you to pick up at your designated performance.  We will not send the tickets to you!  All you need to bring to claim your tickets is the paperwork from your computer.  

 

As usual, we will be holding a small silent auction through-out the run of the play, with the winning bidders announced on the last day of the run.  Winning bidders need not be present to win.  If you have an item that you would like to donate to the cause, please call Jennie at 262-763-5145. 

 

We will also be holding a general theater clean-up before the opening of the show.  The clean-up will be held on Saturday, July 9, at 9 AM at the theater.  Sound like work to you?  It actually is more fun than work because of the people who usually come to this – so, join us! 

 

I have heard that our Young Haylofters production of “Aladdin Jr.” is going great!  Our director, Julie Bush, is very happy with her cast and promises us a rousing rendition of the Disney classic musical.  Production dates for this show will be August 11 – 14 and 18 – 21.  Look for more information to come in the July edition of Happenings.

 

 How do you say outstanding?  Here’s how we, at the Malt House Theater, do.  We are very proud to announce the 2011 recipients of the Haylofters Certificate of Merit Award for a graduating senior.  The winners from: Burlington High School -- Erika Haglund, Ainsley Minkley and Joey Sawyer;  Waterford Union High School – Talia Newton;  Home Schooled/On line classes – Jessica Cwik and Noelle Bydalek.  These young adults have helped us by appearing in many productions at the Hayloft – either as an actor, singer or member of the crew.  Congratulations to this outstanding young man and women, lots of luck in your college and/or adult careers and please come back and work with us again!

 Anyone have a green thumb?  I guess we’d even take a purple, blue or an orange one!  I ask because we will be planting bushes and plants at the theater on Sunday, June 26, at 9 AM.  If you can help, enjoy gardening (or even don’t enjoy it!), please come! 

 

Lastly, our next Board of Directors meeting will be held on Saturday, July 9, at 12 noon, after the theater clean up at the Malt House Theater.
