Stay-cations – Hmmm… We are always adding to the dictionary aren’t we?  Well, if you are one of the many who are having a stay-cation this summer due to this lousy economy (and even if you aren’t), consider expanding your horizons with a visit to the enchanting kingdom of Agrabah where you will meet the handsome Aladdin and the beautiful princess Jasmine!  Of course, I am talking about our upcoming Young Haylofters’ production of “Aladdin Jr”.  Director, Julie Busch has a real knack of working with children and it shows!  Really, not a show to miss.  Dates for this adorable production will be August 11 – 14 and 18 – 21 (Thursday – Saturday evenings at 7:00 PM and Sunday 14th matinee at 2 PM; Sunday 21st matinee at 1:00 PM).  Tickets will be available at The Grater Tater at 140 W. Chestnut St. , Burlington at the cost of $7.  We will also have tickets available on line at www.thehaylofters.com.

We have just finished the production run of the amazing “Jesus Christ Superstar”.  I hope you all got a chance to see this wonderful show and enjoy the beautiful music and very talented actors and musicians.  Really a great and memorable show!

Are you ready for our next season offering?  Here’s a hint:  it’s all about love in its many forms, is hilarious and is the second longest running Off-Broadway show ever with over 4,500 performances!  You want to know what it’s called?  OK, I’ll tell you – it’s called “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”.  That kind of gives us a clue as to what kind of fun it will be right there!  We will once again be under a rights restriction for this show, so please tell all your friends about it.  Jesse Hurst will be directing this very funny musical and auditions will be held at the Malt House Theater on Monday, August 22 at 7 PM.  Jesse will need 8 people for the show – 4 men and 4 women.  Production dates for “I Love You…” will be October 6 – 8, 14 – 16 and 21 - 23.

What else can I audition for, you ask?  We are having an Improv Night at the theater.  This show will be like Comedy Sportz or Who’s Line Is It Anyway?  Auditions will be held on September 11 at 1 PM at the theater.  All you have to do for the auditions is to show up and be ready for the improv games presented to you.  Come on, it’ll be fun!  Practices will be held on September 17 & 18 at 1 PM and the show will be on September 24.  The show will have a family friendly section during the first part and will be more adult in nature during the second part (an intermission will be held between the two parts).  Tickets will cost $10 and will be available soon.  Doesn’t this sound like fun?

Taa daa!!!  There’s something special coming!  The Haylofters invite you to join us for a special evening featuring David Sarkis on September 17 at 7:30 PM.  David is a talented musician and singer who spent two years as a multi-instrumentalist with the hit Broadway musical, “The Jersey Boys”.  David will be playing and singing to classic rock favorites including James Taylor, Jimmy Buffet, Eric Clapton, Simon and Garfunkel, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Carlos Santana.  The evening will include a wine tasting at intermission and door prizes.  This show will be a fund raiser to benefit the new lobby roof and will have a ticket price of $5.  Please come and enjoy a wonderful night of music and fun!

Speaking of talent, do you want to be the director of a play?  The Haylofters are looking for directors for the 2012 season.  The season consists of a spring show and a fall show that can be any type of play (comedy, drama or musical) with a small or medium sized cast, our summer musical with (usually) a large cast and our Young Haylofters presentation requiring student involvement.  The shows, of course, need to meet the approval of our Board of Directors and be appropriate for our audience.  Anyone interested in directing for the 2012 season needs to submit an application by September 15 to be considered.  Applications should include:  a statement of intent and reason for choosing a particular play and time slot; previous theatrical experience of any kind; and the reason you chose the Haylofters for your play.  Send these materials to: Haylofters, P.O. Box 164 , Burlington , WI , 53105 .  We hope to see a lot of applications from you!

Do you have the right stuff to help us out in our never ending quest for talented and hard working board members?  I know it’s only August and the next Haylofters election is in December, but we want you all to consider taking a part in making our theater a better place by running for the Board.  Who can run?  You must be 18 years of age or older and a paid member of the Haylofters.  Only one member of a family may run for the board – that is, for example, if a husband is running for the board, then his wife or their children can’t also be running to be on that same board. Board terms are three years.  I know this is a time commitment, but, in order for out theater to advance, we must have the best people running it, so consider joining us in this very meaningful way.

Finally, our next board meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 6, at 6:30 PM at the Malt House Theater.

Your Hayloft Treasurer and Board member,
                                  Phyllis Hartwick
